  • Running: Marr calls his time...

    Duane Marr had a perfect prediction at this week’s pace race.

    Marr correctly called his finishing time on the 1-mile course of 16 minutes, 58 seconds to win Tuesday’s pace race, sponsored by the Atomic City Roadrunners.

    The race was held at West Road starting near the Los Alamos County Ice Rink.

    Meanwhile, Duane Marr’s wife, Jackie was the top female predictor on the short course Tuesday.

  • Boys tennis: Topper results from...

    The Los Alamos Hilltopper junior varsity boys tennis squad won four of six contests at the Cibola Duals.

    Los Alamos competed at the event Saturday, taking on teams from Cibola, Rio Rancho, St. Michael’s and St. Pius.

    A pair of different Hilltopper teams knocked off St. Pius and split duals with Rio Rancho.

  • Tennis: Topper teams file...

    Both the Los Alamos Hilltopper tennis teams submitted their postseason lineups to the New Mexico Activities Association before Sunday's deadline.

    There were no big surprises in the lineups the Hilltopper teams submitted. The submitted lineups will be what all teams will have to stick with throughout the postseason, barring doctor-confirmed injuries.

    The District 2AAAA tournament starts May 2 at Taos, the Class AAAA team tournament will be played the following weekend and the individual state tournament the following weekend.

    SANTA FE — There wasn’t much left to chance this weekend.Both the Los Alamos Hilltopper boys and girls tennis teams took part in the pre-District 2AAAA tournament Friday and Saturday hoping to leave no doubt as to which teams would get the top seeding in the 2AAAA championship tournament in two weeks.And the Hilltoppers came through in impressive fashion.Both teams soundly defeated the Española Valley Sundevils at home Friday and both scored impressive wins over Capital and Taos Saturday at Capital’s home courts.The s

    Emily Weeks grabbed a pair of wins and state qualifying marks for the Hilltopper girls and the last relay came through for the Hilltopper boys Saturday.Both Los Alamos teams crushed all comers at Saturday’s Capital City Invitational, the biggest meet of the track and field season held north of Albuquerque.

    WRLL Opening Day ceremonies set for SaturdayOpening Day for White Rock Little League will be held Saturday at Byers Field in White Rock.WRLL team photos will be taken starting at 9 a.m., and Opening Day ceremonies will start at 11 a.m.Three exhibition baseball games will be played Saturday at Byers Field and a softball exhibition will be held at Minors A Field starting at 11:30 a.m.The public is invited to attend. Concessions will be available at the ceremony.

  • Running: Glass wins pace race

    George Glass was the top predictor at the Atomic City Roadrunners’ pace race this week.The pace race was held Tuesday at Cañada del Buey Trail in White Rock. In all, 14 walkers and runners participated in this week’s race.Glass, racing on the 1-mile course, finished with an adjusted prediction error of 33 seconds.

  • Club soccer: Red Star wins...

    The Classic FC Red Star boys club soccer team, based in Albuquerque, won the 2008 Spring Far West Regional League title last weekend.The U17 Red Star squad, which includes Los Alamos Hilltopper athletes Will Schoonover and Jason Reagor, won two of three games in the regional final round, played at San Juan Capistrano, Calif.At the regional event, Red Star opened with a 2-2 deadlock against OSC Rage (Anaheim, Calif.).
