‘Leaving LA better than he found it’

There will be a memorial service at the Los Alamos American Legion Hall Post 90 Jan. 26 for Los Alamos resident Jim Evans, a man more than a few people knew in person, and countless others knew through his generosity.

Evans, who lived in Los Alamos for 25 years, passed away from a long illness Jan. 13.

He was 51-years-old.  He worked as a mail carrier, preferred a cold Budweiser as his beverage of choice, was known for solving crosswords from the Wall Street Journal and the Albuquerque Journal in one sitting, and enjoyed listening to the bands DK and the Affordables, The Grateful Dead and Slayer.

He loved music, was a friend of DK Warner of DK and the Affordables and was also a regular at the Russ Gordon Summer Concert Series.

However, he got the biggest kick out of helping people.

On Russ Gordon’s retirement day, Evans paid for a plane ticket for Gordon’s daughter, Rose Annie Ceesay, to fly out and be with Russ during her dad’s last concert promotion.

Everywhere he went and through everything he did, Evans seemed to give a little bit back in return.
