Wendy’s to detail plan today at P&Z

Old McDonald’s site > If OK’d by Planning & Zoning and council, new fast food restaurant could open in early 2020

By Tris DeRoma

Wendy’s restaurant representatives are expected to attend a Planning and Zoning meeting today to explain the details of a plan to build one of its franchises in Los Alamos.

Senior Project Manager of Modulus Architects Craig Calvert is one of the restaurant’s representatives.

According to Calvert, the restaurant is slated to have seating for 30, plus a 15-seat patio.

“On the north side, on the Trinity side, there will be a large, covered patio area that covers the front area of the restaurant,” Calvert said.

Modulus is the local architect that handles the architecture for the franchisee, JEA Restaurant Group/Wen Acquisitions.

“We’ve done a number of Wendy’s over the years and they sent us this information that they were purchasing this property,” Calvert said.

If the application is approved, Calvert said, the first phase would be knocking down the building that’s already on the site at 1275 Trinity Drive, where the old McDonald’s fast food restaurant was located.

“They determined that based on their newer, prototype models and their concept for new stores, it would be best to take the old the old McDonald’s down and start fresh. The company has plans on file for a 2,163 square-foot building to sit on 1.3 acres of land.
