Opera: Inaugural event is planned for Jan. 28

The newly formed Santa Fe Wagner Society announces its first event, inviting admirers of the composer and any others who might be interested.
It will be at 4 p.m. Jan. 28 at the United Church of Santa Fe, 1804 Arroyo Chamiso.  The event is co-presented with the Santa Fe Concert Association as part of its “Note on Music” series.
The first program will focus on Wagner’s seminal opera, “Tristan and Isolde.”  Joseph Illick, artistic director of Santa Fe Concert Association, will talk about Wagner’s personal and artistic life and how he revolutionized opera both dramatically and musically.  Accompanied by Illick on the piano, Jeanne-Michèle Charbonnet, internationally known for her performances as Isolde, will sing excerpts from the opera including the transcendental “Liebestod,” with which it ends.
The Wagner Society of Santa Fe’s mission is to gather Wagner aficionados, novices and those who are curious about the oeuvre of this man.  In informal settings and with leaders in the field, the many aspects of Wagner‘s art will be explored.
