ALBUQUERQUE — New Mexico’s veterans are invited to show off their talents and celebrate the healing qualities of the arts at the 2012 local Veterans Creative Arts Festival on March 7 and 8 (visual arts) and March 9 (performing arts), at the Raymond G. Murphy VA Medical Center in Albuquerque.
Main divisions for the 10th annual festival are music, visual arts, creative writing, drama and dance.
Veterans will be able to enter up to three categories per division. Local first-place winners go on to compete at the national level via digital images and compact disc.
Judging for the visual arts divisions will happen on March 6 in the Recreation Hall (Building 2), while the music, dance and drama divisions will be judged on March 9 in the Education Building (#39) Auditorium.  Creative writing will be judged separately.
The festival is open to all veterans enrolled at VA medical facilities, including New Mexico VA Health Care System employees who are veterans.
Eight area artists were invited to attend the 2011 National Veterans Creative Arts Festival in   Fayetteville, Ark. during the week of Oct. 17-24. That number represented the largest number of New Mexico artists who attended. The 2012 NVCAF will be in Boston from Oct. 8-15.
