Nieve pitches six strong innings to win

Fernando Nieve had one of the best starts of his season for the Albuquerque Isotopes Friday night against the Nashville Sound.
Nieve (5-6) threw six scoreless innings as the Isotopes downed the Nashville Sounds 7-0 at Greer Stadium.
It was the opening game of a four-game series at Nashville after Thursday’s scheduled opener was rained out — Thursday’s game was made up Saturday as part of a doubleheader but results were unavailable as of press time.
Nieve was in control throughout Friday night’s contest, allowing just four hits and striking out six batters. He retired eight of the final 10 batters he faced and only two Sounds runners got as far as second base the entire night.
The win gave Nieve victories in back-to-back starts for the first time this season.
Offensively, Brian Cavasos-Galvez hit a two-run home run in the top of the second and Matt Angle added a solo shot in the third to put the Isotopes up 3-0 at the time.

Retro Night returns at Isotopes Park

The Isotopes return to Albuquerque Monday for an eight-game homestand, which includes Dukes Retro Night Saturday.
Albuquerque will host Memphis and Iowa for four games each.
The homestand runs through July 23.
Dukes Retro Night commemorates Albuquerque’s longtime Triple-A franchise which preceded the Isotopes.
The Isotopes will wear throwback Dukes jerseys for the 7:05 p.m. game against Iowa.
Along with the throwback jerseys, an Albuquerque Baseball Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be held, along with post-game fireworks.
