Isotopes hold on to win 8-7

The Albuquerque Isotopes survived a six run sixth inning by the Fresno Grizzlies to win at home Tuesday night.
The Isotopes had a 6-0 cushion heading into the top of the sixth, but the Grizzlies erased that, putting seven of eight batters on to start the inning and getting a bases-clearing double from Juan Ciriaco off Albuquerque relief pitcher Ramon Troncoso.
Nevertheless, Albuquerque scored in the bottom of the seventh and eighth to win Tuesday’s game 8-7.
The Isotopes can clinch the series win over the Grizzlies tonight at home. Game time is set for 6:45 p.m.
After winning three straight series, the Isotopes split with Salt Lake City – Albuquerque won the first two games and lost the next two – then dropped three of four to Sacramento to open their homestand.
Tuesday’s game looked like it might turn into a laugher early, with the Isotopes scoring four runs in the bottom of the first, then coming back with two more in the third. Trent Oeltjen led off the Isotopes night with a solo home run, while Josh Fields, Luis Cruz and Brian Cavazos-Galvez all doubled in the inning.
For Albuquerque, starting pitcher Michael Antonini cruised until the sixth inning, giving up just one hit through five, but was pulled following a wild pitch in the sixth that scored a run.
Cruz, who had a walk-off double to score Fields in Monday’s 3-2 win over Fresno, again had a big night. Cruz went 3-for-5 with three doubles, two runs scored and two runs driven in.
Despite the two wins, Albuquerque (27-19) holds just a half-game lead over Oklahoma City (26-19) in the PCL American Southern standings. Albuquerque will entertain Oklahoma City for four games starting Friday.
