Thank you, President Obama

Dear Editor,

“We must also recommit ourselves more broadly to ensuring that our daughters have the same rights and opportunities as our sons.” These are the words of President Obama commemorating the 36th anniversary of Roe vs. Wade. I could not agree more with his words. I would also say that our sons should have the same rights and opportunities as our daughters. If a boy gets a girl pregnant and wants to keep the child, (any father’s right I would have thought) he should be allowed to accept that responsibility. Especially if the father of the pregnant daughter considers the baby in the womb to be a “punishment”!

Continuing President Obama’s statement, “...the chance to attain a world-class education; to have fulfilling careers in any industry; to be treated fairly and paid equally for their work and to have no limits on their dreams.” How does abortion accomplish any of these economic goals? Especially for the child whom is aborted? It is indisputable that the so-called “service” of abortion is aimed at the poor as well as black and Hispanic minorities (see www.abortionfacts.com/statistics/race.asp). Thirty-six years of leagalized abortion has not provided the hoped-for panacea; whereas the 28 years of supply-side economics has allowed tens-of-millions of women to obtain fulfilling careers, and pursue dreams never contemplated by their mothers.

Abortion is a liberating force for neither women nor men. Let us again heed words of our President, “What is required of us now is a new era of responsibility — a recognition, on the part of every American, that we have duties to ourselves, our nation, and the world, duties that we do not grudgingly accept but rather seize gladly.” HERE! HERE! Let men and women take responsibility their actions; let them recognize that the baby in the womb is truly an American with the same rights and opportunities of her parents.
