Members of the public and the Los Alamos Juvenile Justice Advisory Board (JJAB) met in the Airport Basin Training Room on May 19 to focus on a Community Multi-Purpose Teen Center initiative.

JJAB Chair Alan Kirk introduced the initiative with an assurance that building a multi-purpose teen center facility will demand patience and community support.

During the JJAB meeting, members of the public and board members organized committees, defined tasks and scheduled further subcommittee meetings in order to fill out the Phase 1 Los Alamos County Capital Improvement Program application.

“Working together, we will bring this initiative forward and hopefully get it approved,” Kirk said. “Kids need and deserve such a facility in this county. It’s too bad that out of all the communities in the 1st Judicial District, Los Alamos is the only community without a teen center.”

Three committees were formed during the meeting including Youth, Project Overview and Similar Benchmark Projects. Each committee is tasked to fill out certain portions of the CIP application.
