Spring into the 2011 opera season

Opera season is just around the corner, so the Los Alamos Opera Guild of the Santa Fe Opera is celebrating the upcoming 2011 opera season with a spring membership party from 3-6 p.m. March 20 at the White Rock home of Roland and Anna Earlene Caspersen. Melissa Riedel-Espinoza, a local soprano will entertain, and Paula Nichols will accompany her.
The spring membership party is the start of a series of events including a performance of the apprentices of the Santa Fe Opera for Los Alamos at Fuller Lodge at 7 p.m. April 23.
Riedel-Espinoza will perform works by Herrmann, Dvorak, Vivaldi and Menotti. She was a student of the late Karolyn Coulter and has studied at the University of New Mexico, the Armstrong Community Music School of Austin Lyric Opera and with Leslie Umphrey.  
A summa cum laude graduate of the University of New Mexico with a concentration in vocal performance, she’s an award winner and has been a featured soloist in several New Mexico venues.
Riedel-Espinoza continues her training with Donna McRae and also gives vocal lessons at her home in White Rock. She is the daughter of Sheila and Joe Riedel of Los Alamos.
The Los Alamos Opera Guild of the Santa Fe Opera is the original guild of the Santa Fe Opera-founded in 1957, the same year the opera had its debut and it served as a model for the five additional guilds that support the Santa Fe Opera today.  
The guild joins the other guilds as volunteers and sponsors the many activities of the Santa Fe Opera such has the Opera Insider Days, backstage tours, Youth Nights at the Opera, the state-wide Spring Opera Tour and the Pueblo Opera Program. All money from any fund raising goes directly to the education and outreach programs of the Santa Fe Opera.
