Team of Spike Jones/Cale Jones wins scramble tourney

The team of Spike Jones/Cale Jones won the 2-person flight in the Father-Son-Daughter tournament at Los Alamos Golf Course.

The tournament was held on Father’s Day.

Jones/Jones won the event with a combined gross score of 68, topping runners-up Greg Hanson/Pat Murphy. Mickey Kelly/Laura Kelly had a combined net score of 58 to take top net honors.

Ron, Thomas and Alicia Herrera won the 3-person scramble at that tournament, while Donnie Torres, Samantha Torres, Mary Alei and John Klein won the 4 and 5 person scramble.

In all, 90 players participated in this year’s tournament.

Splash N Dash set for tonight

The first Splash N Dash Series of the summer will be held tonight starting at the Larry R. Walkup Aquatic Center.

Athletes interested in running and swimming, particularly those who are interested in training for the upcoming Los Alamos Triathlon, are encouraged to attend. The event is free but participants must register between 6:20-6:55 p.m. the day of.

Participants may compete on the longer course (400-yard swim, 5K run) or the shorter course (200-yard swim, 3K run).

Due to time and space constraints, each event will be limited to 75 participants. Those under age 18 must have a signed parental waiver.

Soccer school starts Monday

The second session of this year’s ‘Topper Soccer School will start July 5 at Rover Park.

The session will run through July 9. Registration deadline for the first session is June 28.

The session is open to players from 3-9 years of age. For session one, 3-5 year olds will work out from 3-4 p.m. and 6-9 year olds from 4-5 p.m.

Price for participation is $35. Sibling discounts are available.

Tennis camp opens Tuesday

Los Alamos Junior Tennis Camp will start a four-week session July 6.

The Los Alamos Junior Tennis Camp will be held at the Mesa Tennis Courts behind Sullivan Field. The camp will run through July 15.

The camp is for all players from beginner to advanced from ages 5-17. The early session runs from 8-9:25 a.m. and the late session from 9:40-10:55 a.m.

Price for participation is $99 per session.

Beginning fencing starts Tuesday

The Family YMCA of Los Alamos is offering an introduction to fencing course starting July 6.

The class, which is designed to provide basic fencing information and techniques, will run until July 20. It will be held at the YMCA’s gymnasium starting at 6:30 p.m.

Instruction will include fencing weaponry, footwork skills, attacks and parries.

All equipment for the course will be provided.
