Snow sports conditioning class starting

The Family YMCA of Los Alamos is offering a snow sports conditioning class.
The class is designed to help winter sports participants get in shape for the ski and snowboarding season. The focus will be on cardio and strength training.
Sessions start Monday and continue through Dec. 21.
Sessions will run Mondays and Wednesdays from 6-7 a.m.
The class is not geared for beginning exercisers.
Price for participation is $100 for YMCA members, $135 for nonmembers.

Skateboard competition is Oct. 29 in White Rock

The White Rock Fall Out Slam Skateboard Competition is scheduled for Oct. 29 in White Rock.
The competition will start at noon. All interested skateboarders of any skill level are welcomed to participate.
Price for participation is $3 per skater. All registrations will be taken the day of the event. Helmets are mandatory for all participants.

Yum Run returns Oct. 29

The seventh annual Ruby K’s Yum Run is scheduled for Oct. 29.
The Yum Run features a 5K run/walk and a 10K trail run/walk. Those races start at 8 a.m., while a 1K fun run/walk is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Races will start and end at Ruby K’s on Central Avenue.
Price for participation are $30 for the 10K race, $25 for the 5K and $15 for the fun run/walk. Discounts are available for family racers.

Volleyball team hosting Pink Night, Senior Night Saturday at Griffith Gym

The Los Alamos Hilltopper volleyball team will host both its annual Senior Night as well as Pink Night Saturday at Griffith Gymnasium.
Los Alamos will play the Española Valley Sundevils in a District 2-4A match. Time for the varsity match is slated for 6:30 p.m.
Before the match, the seniors on the Hilltopper rosters will be honored. Also, to raise awareness of breast cancer, attendees are asked to wear pink.
Saturady’s match will be broadcast on KRSN AM 1490. Gene Mortensen, the “Voice of the Hilltoppers,” will call the game live from Griffith Gym.

YMCA’s youth basketball registration is open

Registration is open for the Family YMCA’s youth basketball league.
The league is open for boys and girls in grades 1-8. Registration is open through Nov. 9 for players in elementary school and through Jan. 2 for players in middle school.
The league is a recreational and development league for players of all abilities. Practices will be twice per week with games played on Saturdays.
Price for participation is $65 for YMCA members, $97 for nonmembers. Scholarships may be available from the United Way of Northern New Mexico.
