Softball: WR reaches Juniors softball semifinal

The White Rock Juniors All-Star softball team will face Albuquerque Westgate Wednesday night for the right to advance to the state tournament championship round.

White Rock won a pair of elimination games against Albuquerque Thunderbird and Silver City following an opening round loss to put itself in a position to vie for the state title.

White Rock needed extra innings to top Thunderbird 10-4. Starting pitcher Dominique Sandoval held Thunderbird off the scoreboard for four innings, bug Thunderbird pushed four runs across in the fifth to tie the game.

In the eighth, White Rock scored six runs to put the game away.

Kristin Christensen led the offensive push with a double, a triple, two RBI and two runs scored.

Against Silver City, Rachel Anaya went the distance on the slab, leading White Rock to a 9-6 victory.

White Rock came back from two runs down early, scoring eight runs in the second, third and fourth innings. Micaela Christensen had a triple and knocked in three runs, while Anaya finished with a pair of base hits.

The tournament semifinal game is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Salvador Perez Field in Santa Fe.
