Los Alamos High School student, Charles Mielke has been awarded an all-expense paid trip summer study trip to Germany.

Mielke was selected as a national winner after scoring in the 98.53 percentile on the Level III 2013 National German Exam for High School Students sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of German. 

Nearly 23,000 students participated in the program. After qualifying with a high score on the National German Exam, he or she submitted responses to several short essay questions in German and in English and was then interviewed by a committee comprised of high school teachers and college professors of German. 

Mielke is one of 44 outstanding German students selected from across the United States to receive the award. The study trip includes round-trip air transportation to Germany from New York, a residence with a host family, and excursions to places of cultural and historical significance. The study trip award is made possible through a grant from the Federal Republic of Germany.

The Juvenile Justice Advisor Board and Assets in Action along with Los Alamos High School recognized Nick Torres and Mary Brug with the Hubba Bubba Junior Award.

Staff anonymously nominated the students for making LAHS a better place by building Assets. 

The two winners always, “Take A Second to Make a Difference.”
