Patricia Lena Stan was recently honored as Rotary Student of the Month for January.

The Rotary Club of Los Alamos selects one outstanding student of the current Los Alamos High School graduating class to honor each month.

Students are selected on the basis of academic success, extracurricular involvement and service to the community.

Along with her parents, Marius and Liliana, Stan chose Janna Warren, her piano teacher of six years, to join her in accepting this honor.

Stan said that Warren, “Never gave up on me, even when I wanted to quit playing the piano. She has encouraged and helped me to excel in everything I do and has always been there for me.”

Stan was born in Bucharest, Romania, and moved to Los Alamos at the age of 5.

She began playing the piano when she was 9 years old and has gone on to win several awards and competitions, including first place in the Northern New Mexico Sonata Competition and third place in the Northern New Mexico Piano Competition.

She is an actor and has had several extra and featured background roles in television shows and movies. This past summer, her piano playing earned her a guest role on Starz television series “Crash.” Stan is Screen Actors Guild eligible, and she is represented by the A&M Agency.

Stan is vice president of Key Club and secretary of National Honor Society, which has allowed her to be involved in community service.

She has helped organize and participated in community activities such as pancake breakfasts and animal shelter fundraisers. She is also a junior volunteer at the Los Alamos Medical Center.

Stan is a member of the New Mexico Dance Theater where she has taken jazz, flamenco, hip-hop and ballet classes. She performed in the company’s “Snow White” and “Cinderella” productions. Stan was involved with the high school volleyball program until her junior year.

Her plans after high school include attending college to study human interactions, especially communication and decision-making. She plans to pursue interdisciplinary studies that cover medical research, social sciences and international relations. She said she has been very lucky to be able to visit many countries and absorb different cultures. Her plan is to spend a year studying abroad and getting involved in international programs.
