The Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board has postponed a public hearing set for May 22 in Washington, D.C., to discuss the Department of Energy’s plans to prevent future accidents at nuclear waste facilities.

The board rescheduled the hearing “to maximize panelist participation,” according to DNFSB General Manager Glenn Sklar.

The board will set another date “shortly,” according to the message posted on its website earlier this week.

“We don’t have a new date set quite yet,” Sklar said Wednesday.

The board will post the new date on its website as soon as they reschedule, he said.

According to the original agenda, the board suggested up to eight panelists over the two sessions during the half-day meeting. The suggested panelists included DOE Assistant Secretary for Environmental Management Anne Marie White, Carlsbad Field Office Manager Todd Shrader, Idaho Cleanup Project Deputy Manager Jack Zimmerman, and five others.

Apparently, one or more of the panelists may have been unable to attend the May 22 meeting, prompting the change in date, however, Sklar would not confirm that.

The meeting was set to be held at the DNFSB headquarters, 625 Indiana Ave. NW in Washington, D.C.
