“Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit” is a classic secret spy movie. Based on the character created by author Tom Clancy, the movie begins with Jack, played by Chris Pine. He is a Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps serving in Afghanistan.
The unit helicopter crashes, leaving Jack seriously injured and out of a job. After recovering, he is recruited to join the CIA by Thomas Harper (Kevin Costner).
When Ryan believes he has uncovered a plot to collapse the United States economy, he travels to Moscow, Russia. There he must try to destroy the conspiracy and fight for his life and for the one he holds most dear, his fiancée Cathy Mullen (Kiera Knightley).
The central villain in the movie is Viktor Cherevin. He is played by Kenneth Branagh, who also directed the movie. Action-packed, suspenseful and thrilling, this movie has all the workings of a spy film.
Despite an unsophisticated plot, the movie is easy to follow and holds the audience’s attention. The action keeps viewers on the edge of their seats throughout the entire film.
The acting was outstanding, which contributed to the quality of this very entertaining movie.
