McTEIGUE Maria Viola Sanchez McTeigue, age 76, passed away in Los Alamos, New Mexico on Friday, December 14, 2007, of a long history of heart failure.

Viola was preceded in death by her father Pedro Sanchez, mother Frutuosa Sanchez, sister LouAnn Sanchez, brother Dennis Sanchez, brother Willie Sanchez, and Brother-in-law Augustin Ulibarri, Sister-in-law Lydia Sanchez, Nephew Andy Sanchez, Great Nephew Dennis Mascarenas, Godfather Juan Pablo Martinez, Godmother Ignacia Martinez, many beloved Uncles and Aunts, paternal grandparents Nemecio and Libradita Sanchez and maternal grandparents Pedro Olivas Martinez and Rumaldita Rael Martinez.

Viola was born in Ojo Sarco, New Mexico, on August 5, 1931, to parents Pedro and Frutuosa Sanchez. Viola grew up in Ojo Sarco, attended St. Anthonys in Penasco, and graduated from Santa Cruz High School in Santa Cruz, both under the direction of Catholic nuns. Viola was committed to life-long learning and attended Northern New Mexico Community College and University of New Mexico, Los Alamos Campus.

After high school graduation, Viola got her first job at the New Mexico State Capitol in Santa Fe, then at the Motor Vehicle Department where she was a key punch operator and a supervisor. Viola moved to Los Alamos where she worked for Zia Company, also as a key punch operator and supervisor. She promoted to University of California, Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory, where she operated the worlds largest CRAY Computers at the time. After retirement, Viola provided hospice care for the elderly. Viola was also a cattle rancher and a significant land owner in Ojo Sarco, Chimayo and Los Alamos.

Viola was an active member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Los Alamos, faithfully participating in Perpetual Adoration and daily and first Friday masses. She was previously a member of Holy Family Parish in Chimayo, Santo Tomas Church in Ojo Sarco and St. Francis Cathedral in Santa Fe.

Viola was the pride of her family and was highly esteemed by all her family and friends. She was an inspiration to all and was ready to help anybody at any time. Viola was a good Christian, a hard worker and stressed the importance of higher education.

Viola is survived by her two daughters Jolyn S. McTeigue of Richlands, Virginia, and Doreen Guadalupe McTeigue-Garcia and husband Paul Garcia of Rio Rancho; Grandchildren Maria Jaleh, Xavier, William and Isabella McTeigue of Richlands, Virginia, and Paul Aaron and Wife Chelsea, Maria Danielle and boyfriend Aaron Kirkpatrick, and Joseph McTeigue-Garcia of Rio Rancho; Brother, who was like a son, Ricardo Sanchez and sister-in-law Lala of La Villita, Sister Eugenia (Gina), and brother-in-law Melisendro Duran of Chamita, Sister Anita Ulibarri of Albuquerque, Sister Betty and Brother-in-law Manuel Espinoza of Ranchitos (Espanola); Sister-in-law Carolina Sanchez of Los Alamos; Aunt Bennie Sanchez of Albuquerque, Aunt Olivama Sanchez of Bayard, New Mexico; Godchildren, Bobby Sanchez, Connie Duran Montoya, Dolly Sanchez Torres, Jacqueline Ulibarri Griggs, Floyd Trujillo, Patricia Lopez and Joseph Gonzales; many wonderful cousins from the Martinez and Sanchez families; many nephews and nieces; and many special friends, neighbors and clients.

Rosary in honor of Viola to begin at 10:30 a.m with funeral Mass immediately following at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 27, 2007, at the St. Francis Cathedral in Santa Fe.
