Los Alamos man critical after stabbing

A 28-year-old man was in critical condition Saturday following a stabbing attack Friday at a Los Alamos apartment.

A 27-year-old woman was also attacked and received minor injuries, according to the Los Alamos Police Department.

Los Alamos police officers arrested Andrea Rivera, 37, Los Alamos, Saturday on suspicion of two counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon causing great bodily harm, a third-degree felony.

As of Saturday at 1 p.m., Rivera was being held without bond at the Los Alamos Detention Center awaiting an appearance in front of Magistrate Judge Pat Casados.

The man, who has not been identified, was flown to the University of New Mexico Hospital shortly after he was transported to Los Alamos Medical Center from the scene on Friday, an apartment at 3301 Canyon Road. The woman remained at LAMC. Los Alamos Fire Department personnel worked on the victims prior to their transport.

Officers were not able to locate the suspect immediately after the attack, but later found her at 3590 Gold Street in Los Alamos. According to the Police Department, officers worked through the night sifting through the scene of the attack and attempting to locate Rivera.

More information may be released in the near future as this case is still being actively investigated. The LAPD urges anyone with information in this case to contact detectives at 662-8222.
