LAHS gridders hosting golf tourney

Football: Booster Club will have lots of giveaways during Saturday’s event

Most people don’t associate yelling “fore” with football, but the Los Alamos Hilltopper football team hopes you will this week.
The LAHS Gridiron Booster Club is emphasizing the green in the green and gold by hosting their annual fundraising golf tournament Saturday.
“All funds will be used to improve our existing equipment and pay for travel costs,” head coach Garett Williams said.
The chance to chase the little white ball will benefit the player as well as do a lot to assist the team as the 2012 season approaches.
Each player will receive a $15 gift card from GolfDiscount.com and a free golf club from Warrior Golf.
A $15,000 cash prize is on the line for a hole-in-one and par three hole prizes include a Sharp LCD flat screen television, a set of Diablo Irons — Nos. 3 through pitching wedge — from Callaway Golf and a pair of domestic round trip plane tickets for two.
“We are having a raffle and several fun holes,” said Williams. “The day includes golf, cart, goody bag and dinner.”
Teams of four golfers will play a scramble format begin with a 1 p.m. shotgun start. Interested participants may sign up as a team or single players will be paired with others.
The $100 fee also includes; range balls, cart, greens fees, a T-shirt and other prizes. Strings and Mulligans will also be sold throughout the day.

Summer is a busy time for the Hilltopper program. Players just completed their youth camp and official practices start Aug. 6.
This season could be a big one for the Hilltoppers, who will be coming off their first District 2-4A championship since 2008. They open their season Aug. 31 at home against Pojoaque.
The football program is also still looking for help for Saturday’s tournament. Booster Club president Alida Van Etten, is available for questions or to accept hole or event sponsors.
