A pair of Los Alamos Fencing Club epeeists turned in impressive performances at the Santa Fe Roasters competition.
The Santa Fe Roasters fencing competition was held July 30 at the New Mexico Fencing Foundation.
Club newcomer Patrick Webb had a big showing at the tournament in the men’s open epee division.
For his part, Webb finished in third place, losing only to eventual champion Gavin Medeley, a collegiate competitor at Ohio State University.
For his finish in the tournament, Webb earned a ‘C’ rating — he went into the weekend unranked.
“Patrick joined our club a month ago from Fairbanks, Alaska,” coach Tom Hill said. “He has a very unusual but effective epee style that really perplexed Gavin, the top epeeist in New Mexico.
He’s a strong addition to our club and should represent the LAFC well on the national level.”
Also for LAFC, William Gulley finished with a silver medal in the Y14 epee competition. Gulley placed second in the division, which consisted of 10 fencers.
Hill finished ninth in the men’s epee, Alberto Fraile was 10th and Jack Stafurik finished 13th for LAFC.
There were 16 total fencers in the open epee division.
