Lads of Enchantment presentation of "AFTER DARK"

10/26/2012 - 7:30am - 10/27/2012 - 7:30am

The Lads of Enchantment will present their Annual Show on Friday October 26th and Saturday 27th at the United Church of Los Alamos.  This year’s show, “After Dark”, will feature the Lads of Enchantment Chorus and quartets and the Lads’ Special Guest, “The 505 Chorus”, Albuquerque’s premier young men’s a cappella group.

“After Dark”, takes a light-hearted look at the misadventures of Dr. Frankenstein as he attempts to brighten his dreary existence using his unique form of “creativity”.  The foibles of Dr. Frankenstein and his assistants establish the premise for the Lads to sing traditional barbershop songs and timeless favorites – such as “Blue Moon”, “By the Light of the Silvery Moon”, “I’m Sitting on Top of the World,” Blue Velvet”, and “Moonlight Bay”.  Since the show is the weekend before Halloween, the audience is encouraged, but absolutely not required, to wear a costume and participate in a costume contest each night of the Show.

Talented special guest, “The 505 Chorus”, brings the energy and enthusiasm of youth to the show.  The 505 Chorus was founded in 2008 by four young men who wanted to compete in collegiate a cappella choral singing, which has undergone resurgence in recent years.  During its short existence, the 505 Chorus has achieved second and a third place finishes at the Barbershop Harmony Society’s Annual International Youth Chorus Festival, and they have had the highest scored song in a number of contests.  At the end of September, they were guest performers at the 2012 BHS Rocky Mountain District Convention in Albuquerque, where they were well received by their peers.

The show begins at 7:30 PM each night.  Although it was initially scheduled at another venue, the show will be presented at the United Church of Los Alamos.  There will be an “Afterglow” in Graves Hall following the Friday night show.  The Afterglow entails a snack and additional singing for a modest fee of $5.00.  Advance tickets ($15; $5 for students) may be purchased at CB Fox or from chorus members.  You may call Joe at 672-9371 for additional information.
