Seniors will be honored at final home game tonight

The Los Alamos Hilltopper hockey team (8-4-2) completes its regular season play this weekend, including its final home game Friday night.

The Hilltoppers will play their final home game Friday against the Cibola Cougars (8-4-1). Game time is 7 p.m.

Los Alamos’ final game of the regular season will be against the Albuquerque Outkast (7-4-2) Sunday.

The Hilltoppers have lost to both of these teams this season and are looking to rebound following two ties last weekend in which they outshot their opposition by a combined 76-13 but couldn’t get the puck past two solid goalies.

Tonight is designated as Senior Appreciation Night and will start with a brief recognition ceremony for the graduating seniors and their parents.

The graduating seniors in the Los Alamos hockey program include Andre Appert, Kyle Barich-Mooday, Oliver Funsten, Neel Gupta, Ryan Hopper, Ryan Locke, Marina Meneakis, Colton Pope, Patrick Raichur, Cameron Ranken, Justin Trujillo and Matt Xu.

This is the second year in a row that the team has lost roughly half of its roster to graduation.

Sunday’s game is set for 11:30 a.m. at Albuquerque’s Outpost Arena.

The Outkast have generally been inconsistent this season and have leaned heavily on the play of Kyle Brown and Chris King, two players the Hilltoppers are very wary of.

Los Alamos will be looking for big things from its team captains and point leaders Oliver Funsten, Neel Gupta and Chase Havemann.

The Hilltoppers could garner a good seed in the upcoming state tournament with a pair of victories in these season-ending contests.
