LA tennis teams compete at pre-2-4A meet this weekend

It’s getting down to the nitty-gritty in tennis across the state including for the Los Alamos boys and girls teams.
The Hilltopper boys and girls will both compete at the pre-District 2-4A tournament. The tournament starts Friday and continues through Saturday in Santa Fe.
This tournament is a big one for several reasons, not the least of which is that it determines the seeding of each team in the district tournament, which is slated for May 3.
The top finishing teams and individuals at the 2-4A tournament will go on to compete in the state tournament the following week.
Also, this will be the final tournament before state lineups are due. Teams must submit their top six individuals and top three doubles teams to the New Mexico Activities Association by Sunday.
After lineups are submitted to the NMAA, teams must use those for the duals competitions at the district and state meets unless there is a documented injury or other extenuating circumstance that requires changes.
This season, Los Alamos’ girls, who appear to be locked in competition with both Albuquerque Academy and Farmington for a Class 4A title this season, have won two tournaments in 2013, at El Paso March 8 and Robertson March 15. They have also taken second place five different times this year, finishing behind Farmington in four of those tournaments.
The Hilltopper boys have placed in the top three in team competition five times at tournaments, taking their lone win of the season at the March 22 Santa Fe Quadrangular.
In their most recent outing, the Albuquerque Academy Invitational, Los Alamos placed fifth overall, picking up team wins against a pair of Class 4A schools, Goddard and Belen.
Los Alamos topped Goddard 7-1, with five of its six singles – Chase Rochester, Steven McCrory, George Margevicius, Daniel Dahl and Cameron Wilson — winning in straight sets. Against Belen, Nikita Belooussov, Los Alamos’ No. 1 single, along with McCrory, Margevicius and Wilson were straight-set winners.
