Softball: ’Toppers jump all over Jags’ pitching to win big

By The Staff

The Los Alamos Hilltopper softball team ran its District 2-4A record to a spotless 6-0 with just six games to play.
The Hilltoppers thumped the Capital Jaguars Wednesday at Overlook Park. They scored five runs in the bottom of the first and four more in the bottom of the second en route to a 16-0 victory in 4-1/2 innings.
Alyssa Mojica, batting in the cleanup spot, hit a three-run home run in the first inning to get the rout started, while Los Alamos (12-4) pounded out 10 hits in four trips to the plate against the hapless Jaguars.
“(Fabiola Garcia-Lopez) threw a pretty good speed, but there were times we hit her,” Los Alamos manager Roger Anaya said. “We found balls in the zone and were able to drive them. I’m happy with the way we’re able to put the ball in play.”
Los Alamos, which has put up its best run totals of the season during district play, got four back-to-back hits in the third inning as it pushed five more runs across the plate.
Emilee Jones, getting her first pitching start of the district season, gave up just two hits in five innings. Jones got herself out of trouble in the top of the first when the Jaguars (0-10 overall, 0-X in 2-4A) loaded the bases with just one out.
At the plate, Mojica, Ari Larkin and Erin Kirk each went 2-for-3. Larkin drove in a pair of runs in the bottom of the second.
