The Los Alamos Little League 9-10 baseball All-Stars will open state tournament play Saturday in Portales.
Los Alamos rolled to an impressive District 1 victory earlier this month to qualify for the state tournament. Los Alamos won four straight contests by a run margin of 81-6 to advance.
The state tournament continues through at least next Thursday and possibly through next Friday, depending on Thursday’s outcome.
Los Alamos is one of nine teams that qualified for the state 9-10 tournament.
It will face off against Deming in its opening game at 7 p.m. Saturday. The winner of that game will face the winner between Las Vegas and Albuquerque’s South Valley.
Other first round games include Albuquerque Roadrunner vs. Albuquerque Eastdale Friday night and Alamogordo vs. Carlsbad Saturday.
The winner between Roadrunner and Eastdale will face Clovis Saturday.
The tournament is double-elimination and will be played at Portales’ Rotary Park.
In winning the District 1 tournament, Los Alamos topped Española twice, including the district championship game 20-0.
In that game, Arthur Steinkamp threw a 4-inning no-hitter.
