International Taste of Los Alamos Says Thank You

The 2010 International Taste of Los Alamos was a wonderful success, highlighting the culinary talents of local community members from 18 different countries around the globe.

This year’s event raised money for UNM-LA Bridge Scholarships which allow qualifying students to “bridge” to their lottery scholarship. Lottery scholarships are awarded after the qualifying semester, thus some students do not have funds for their first semester tuition and books.  Bridge scholarships alleviate that problem for many students.

We had wonderful community-wide support from our local businesses this year.

Very special thanks go to our event sponsors: Los Alamos MainStreet,  Smith’s, UNM-LA, CB Fox, Zia Credit Union, Mosaic Architectural Solutions, P.A., Stewart Central Title, Southwest Office Solutions, Title Guaranty Insurance Company, Ruby K’s, The Coffee House, TJ Taub-Realtor, LAYL, The Spanish Table, Ziggy’s International Market, Sergio Astorga, Marcela Navarro Walker, Elba Reyes, Origami Restaurant,  The Blue Window, Central Avenue Grill, Pyramid Café and De Colores.

Our wonderful entertainment was provided by Alina Deshpande’s East Indian Dance Troupe, The Royal Scottish Country Dancer Society, Tristen Goodwin on bagpipes and Balisima Irish Dance. “Passports” for children were provided by the LAHS Youth Leadership team, with additional support from Elba Reyes and Sylvia Czemerys.

A very big thank you to all the outstanding cooks who volunteered their time and talents to our event.

They represented Belgium, China, Japan, Korea, Sweden, Bangladesh, Mongolia, Mexico, Portugal, Slovakia, The Czech Republic, England, Tunisia, Italy, Costa Rica, Russia, India, Poland and Norway.

It is amazing the number of different countries represented in our community.

We hope the International Taste of Los Alamos grows, with community support, into an annual International Festival celebrating the many, many cultures living and working right here in Los Alamos.
