A pair of local hockey players, Chandler Art and MK English will represent New Mexico and the Rocky Mountain region when they travel to Buffalo, N.Y., next month.

Art and English, veterans of the Los Alamos Hockey Association, were picked to join Mountain States Girls Hockey League 14 and under All-Star team. The MSGHL’s All-Star team includes several players from both New Mexico and Colorado.

In a press release, the girls gave credit for their success to the LAHA coaches and teammates for their success in moving on to the All-Star team, noting that LAHA has more girl skaters than anywhere else in New Mexico.

The two girls were among four New Mexico skaters selected for the All-Star team.

Art and English both started skating in LAHA’s Learn-To-Skate program and continued to play hockey for the local association.

The MSGHL All-Stars will play in the North American Prospects Showcase Tournament, which will be played in upstate New York July 9-11.

The team is currently seeking financial support from local businesses to offset travel and equipment costs for the tournament. Contributions may be made by contacting Liz English at 672-9178.
