December’s Lunch with a Leader sponsored by the League of Women Voters will feature Los Alamos County Councilor Ralph Phelps as the speaker.
The lunch is from 11:45 a.m.-12:45 p.m. Dec. 14 at Central Avenue Grill. The $15 fee includes an entree, drink, tax and tip.
Topics that will be covered include Phelps’ perspectives on his two years on the council and what he learned about public service.
He will also discuss the Trinity Place evolution, the Municipal Building events and status — including thoughts on the initiative process, how budget interfaces with strategic planning, the cooperation and teamwork on the council and considerations in the years ahead.
Phelps’ wife Linda grew up in Farmington and they first met in Albuquerque when he was a captain in the U.S. Air Force at Kirtland Air Force Base.
Later, he finished a graduate degree in nuclear engineering from the University of Virginia. When he retired from the Omaha Public Power after 16 years as division manager of engineering, he and Linda decided to return to the state they loved so much.
During the time he has been here, Phelps has been a county councilor for two years, chair of the Utilities Board for two-and-a-half years, on the first CIP review committee and is currently chair of the Northern New Mexico Citizens Advisory Board.
He also does small consulting jobs for DOE and utilities.
This luncheon is open to all, not just League members. It is a service they offer the community on a monthly basis.
Although a reservation is not required, they would appreciate it if those interested would call Karyl Ann Armbruster at 661-6605 or e-mail her at kaskacay
man@gmail.com so that the Central Avenue Grill can have a majority of the set-up ready for Tuesday’s luncheon.
