The beginning of August means the fall sports season is just around the corner. For the Los Alamos Hilltopper football team, that means preseason is just hours away.
Two-a-days for the Hilltoppers start Monday at LAHS’ practice field.
Monday is the first official day of fall practice for football for teams around the state. All other fall sports get going Aug. 8.
The 2011 season opener for the Hilltopper football team is Aug. 27 at Pojoaque, although the team will see its first live action a week earlier when it travels to Piedra Vista for a preseason scrimmage.
This season will be the second for the Hilltoppers under Garett Williams. In 2010, Williams’ first season, the team went 4-6, but came on in the latter half of the season to finish 3-1 in District 2-4A play. Unfortunately, the team missed out on the postseason.
This year was the first time teams could hold spring workout sessions, which Los Alamos started soon after the end of the spring sports season in mid-May.
Los Alamos also took part in a 7-on-7 league this summer, playing teams from Española Valley, Pojoaque and Santa Fe.
