Los Alamos Fire Department fire fighters were responding to a fire that had grown to about three acres by 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in Los Alamos Canyon near the Canyon Rim Trailhead east of NM 502 and across from the Co-op and Holiday Inn Express.

LAFD crews were working on fire lines to contain the fire, and making good progress, according to officials. The fire was not torching or crowning and was a ground fire. The fire was in the same area where a four-acre fire occurred on March 29.

NM 502 was still open to traffic

County officials were advising motorists to avoid the area if possible, as this was an active fire-fighting scene.
