Fashion Maven: It’s not too late for a date

-A A +A

Valentine’s Day may just have passed, but that doesn’t mean date nights have to come to a halt because the most romantic day of the year is over.
Dates can be a relaxing and entertaining way to spend some time with your significant other. But there’s a catch: a date requires a perfect outfit, which is not always easy to muster up.
The first and largest determining factor of an outfit is the location of your rendezvous. If you’re planning on anything that involves walking, comfortable shoes — not tennis shoes — like flats or boots are a safe option.
If you go out to dinner, opt for some heels that match your outfit. Even if you don’t usually wear pumps or wedges, date nights are an opportunity to dress up.
For dinner dates, dresses and skirts are chic options. Go for something colorful or flowy, and remember that tight dresses are not always flattering.
If you’re shrink-wrapped into a dress, you won’t be comfortable or look comfortable, for that matter. Tight dresses are great for empty stomachs, but not quite as enjoyable after a three-course meal.
A V-neck dress that flows out from the waist and ends just above the knee is a safe bet for almost any figure, as is a skirt of the same length.
If the weather is cold or you don’t want to show too much leg, consider wearing tights.
These don’t have to be plain black, they can be embellished or printed with patterns. In fact, wearing a solid-colored dress and some printed tights can look very sophisticated.
If you’re the type of person that is not comfortable in any kind of dress or skirt, wear some dark-wash jeans or black pants, with a cute beaded or chiffon top.
Ruffles are especially feminine. If you feel they’re too extravagant, one option is to make sure that the lower-half of the shirt is ruffled and not the bust or the collar.
For a dinner date, a clutch is a compact and easy way to store money, a phone and a camera. If you’re doing some walking, a large bag that you can sling over your shoulder is more convenient.
Opt for something sleek that will elegantly blend with your outfit, or pick out a bright bag that will brighten your ensemble with a pop.
Accessorize to your heart’s desire, but remember that too many accessories can be an overkill.
If you’re wearing an extravagant necklace with matching earrings, a bracelet and a few rings, consider taking some bling off. Sometimes, more is less.
In any case, be yourself. You don’t want to go out on a date looking like someone you’re not. The point of an outfit is to enhance yourself and your personality, so take the opportunity to do so. There’s nothing like a few fashion tips to keep you up-to-date.
