Espanola suspect killed, agent wounded in shoot-out

ESPANOLA, N.M. (AP) — Authorities say a 22-year-old man has been killed and a New Mexico State Police agent wounded in a gunfire exchange at an Espanola apartment complex.

According to state police, the agent - whose name has not been released - was taken to a hospital in stable condition. The man killed, Rogelio Cisneros-Chavez, died at the scene.

Police say he was a suspect in a larceny investigation and had an active warrant for his arrest when police went to the apartment complex to look for him.

Shots erupted when agents made contact with Cisneros-Chavez inside an apartment.

Police say the wounded agent was coherent and talking.
