Discovering hope

Saturday, the gift of hope will be presented to the community. Wrapped up in carnival colors, and ready to be opened by the whole family, Discover Hope will be held from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at Fuller Lodge.

The event, sponsored by the Hope Fellowship, was first held last year at Ashley Pond. Carla Weiser, co-founder of Hope Fellowship with her husband, Allen, said this year’s format will be similar to the first Discover Hope.

Inspirational live music will be played. There will be an inflatable jump house, games, balloons and more.

VaLynn Purvis, owner of Party to Go, will be taking her business to the event.

Additionally, giveaways, such as Frisbees and other items containing inspirational messages, will be distributed.

The whole purpose of the event is “we’re trying to give (the community) a gift of hope,” Carla Weiser said.

In addition to the music and giveaways, Discover will further shower the crowds with rays of hope with prayer requests. Six ministers have volunteered to be a part of the event.

Carla Weiser said the event was formed out of the desire to help the community.

“We had to come up with a way to reach the public with the message of hope,” she said. “People receive a lot of things in life but those things don’t give them the heartfelt desire to have a relationship with God and live with peace and joy he has for us.”

Through Discover Hope, they can achieve this relationship, Weiser said.

It’s a relationship many people in Los Alamos seem eager to have Weiser said last year more than 400 people participated in the event.

Discover Hope is free and open to everyone.

Hope Fellowship has been operating in Los Alamos two-and-half years ago. It is a recognized ministry of the United Pentecostal Church International (UPCI). Rev. Allen Weiser holds an ordained ministerial license with the UPCI. For additional information about Hope Fellowship, call 662-4673.
