Dallon Burnside was recognized as carrier of the quarter

Newspaper carriers, like mail carriers, often go unrecognized for their service, save for once a year, when people on their routes often reward them with cards or cash tips for a job well done.

In an effort to recognize an exemplary newspaper carrier, the Monitor hosted a celebration April 17 to honor Dallon Burnside as the Carrier of the Quarter for the first quarter of 2010.

Burnside, 14, a Los Alamos Monitor carrier for four years, received a certificate and $50 for his outstanding work from Circulation Administrator Jane Johnson.

“I was surprised and excited that I won the $50 because I thought I might have one complaint,” Burnside said. “Getting a paycheck is the best part of my job. I put the $50 I won into my savings account for college — I hope to go to Brigham Young University.”

Burnside attends Los Alamos Middle School. His mother, Janet Burnside, expressed pride in his accomplishments.

“Dallon takes his responsibilities very seriously,” she said. “He doesn’t have to be reminded, he does his paper route all on his own. He’s a happy child and was extremely excited to win that award.”

During the event, which included a pizza lunch, 23 other carriers were also recognized for their exemplary customer service between Jan. 1 and March 31. The carriers represented 13 routes receiving awards for excellence for having no complaints and carriers representing 15 routes who were recognized for having just one complaint.

“Through a very cold, snowy and icy winter, these carriers didn’t miss a day,” Johnson said. “We are very proud of them and happy to celebrate their accomplishments.”

Carriers included Lizabeth Rutherford, Tiaunna Terrell, Alex Jones, Joshua Brasier, Amy England, Li Shixin, Rebekeh Kressin, Kei Pocaterra, Cindy Budge, Caitlyn Dahl, Curtis Schramm and Daniel Dahl.
