Kyle Pittman and Jason Reagor shone bright for the Los Alamos Hilltopper boys track and field team at Monday’s Meet of Champions.

The Meet of Champions, held at the University of New Mexico complex in Albuquerque, is one of the most prestigious prep events in the state. The invitation-only meet is attended by the top athletes from around the state regardless of school classification.

Pittman, a junior, won the 1600 meters with a blazing time of 4 minutes, 19.72 seconds. The finish immediately cements him as a threat to win the event at the Class AAAA state championship next month.

Pittman finished just ahead of another outstanding Los Alamos distance runner, Gareth Gilna. Gilna was third in Monday’s race, less than four seconds behind.

In the sprint events, Reagor, a senior, took second in the 200 meters and third in the 100 meters, one of the top sprint performances of the day.

Nat Gustafson earned some points for the Hilltoppers as well, finishing fifth in the 3200 meters with his time of 10:03.09.

Los Alamos’ girls results hadn’t been received by press time Tuesday.
