The Alzheimer’s Society will host a cowboy breakfast from 7-11 a.m. at the Sheriff’s Posse Lodge. The menu includes plan, blueberry, banana and chocolate chip pancakes along with bacon, sausage, eggs, juice and coffee. The breakfast cost $6 per adult and $4 for children age 10 and younger. Special guest will perform square dancing demonstrations.


The Board of Education will hold a special meeting at 11:30 a.m. in conference room A at the district office to discuss disposal of fixed assets and a calendar change for the 2008-09 school year.

The Farmers Market will be held from 7 a.m.-noon in the Mesa Public Library parking lot, 2400 Central Avenue.

Mesa Public Library free film series screens “Stranger Than Fiction” at 6:30 p.m. in the upstairs meeting room theater. Admission is free.

The Los Alamos Arts Council will sponsor a recital featuring Caroline Coggeshall and eight friends at 7 p.m. at Fuller Lodge. The public is welcome.


A pool tournament will be held at 8 a.m. at the Betty Ehart Senior Center.

Los Alamos County Fair exhibits will be held from 5-8 p.m. at Mesa Public Library.

Los Alamos Summer Concert Series presents Candye Kane at 7 p.m. at Ashley Pond.


The Los Alamos Republican Women will meet at 9 a.m. in the Canyon School parking lot to participate in the parade.  Members are urged to wear their red shirts and white pants.

The Art Center at Fuller Lodge presents the Summer Arts and Crafts Fair from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on the lawn at Fuller Lodge.

Los Alamos County Fair Parade will begin at 10 a.m. on Central Avenue.

Dance Arts Los Alamos’ annual registration week will start today from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at the DALA booth at Ashley Pond. Registration will continue from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Aug. 11-15 at the White Rock Studio; also from 6-8 p.m. Aug. 13 in Los Alamos at Trinity on the Hill Episcopal Church in the Parish Hall, lower level; and from 9 a.m.-noon Aug. 16 at the White Rock Studio.

The Pajarito Environmental Education Center will be sponsoring a Wildlife Habitat Yard Tour from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Discover how Los Alamos residents are turning their yards into havens for local wildlife. An activity for children will be available at each of the five homes on the tour. Admission is $10/ individual ticket or $15/couple or family ticket. The Los Alamos Dog Obedience Club will observe Responsible Dog Ownership Day (RDOD) at Ashley Pond in conjunction with the Los Alamos County Festival, Fair, and Rodeo. In addition to Meet the Breeds with LADOC from 11 a.m.- 1 p.m. There will be several demonstrations: 9:30 a.m., Rally Obedience; 10:30 a.m., Agility; 11:30 a.m., Obedience; 12:30 p.m., Conformation; 1 p.m., Rally Obedience; 2 p.m., Agility; and 3 p.m., Obedience.  LADOC members will be available all day at the LADOC booth, where there will be numerous free handouts regarding responsible dog ownership and other aspects of dog care.

Los Alamos County Fair exhibits will be displayed from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at Mesa Public Library.

The Los Alamos Summer Concert Series presents Chuck Prophet from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at Ashley Pond.

The Los Alamos Little Theatre will host a Directing Workshop conducted by Santa Fe director Clara Soister from noon-4 p.m. at the theater.  This free workshop is being presented under the auspices of the theater group’s fall “8x10 Again” short play festival and is open to all interested LALT members and participants.  No directing experience is required.

Los Alamos County The Los Alamos Summer Concert Series presents the LA Big Band at 1:30 p.m. at Ashley Pond.

Fair rodeo queens presentation will be held at 2 p.m. on the rodeo grounds. The rodeo will also begin at 2 p.m.

A dinner, which is part of the fair and rodeo, will be held at 5 p.m. at the Posse Lodge. There is a charge for dinner and a free dance will be held.

Exercise bike/endurance skills on the trails at Pajarito Mountain during the Pajarito Punishment Mountain Bike Race. The beginners course will be 6.5 miles and expert/sport course will be 35 miles.
