Kent Parsons will present a DVD featuring  Jay Verkler, CEO of Family Search. The subject will be  “The Technological Future of Genealogy.”

The Betty Ehart Senior center is sponsoring the Festival of Chocolate from 7-9 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are available for $20 each.The Festival of Chocolate formally launches the Festival of Trees, which will be from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Nov. 19. Movie Night at the Los Alamos Jewish Center will be at 7 p.m. and feature the movie, “Driving Miss Daisy.” Refreshments (popcorn and drinks) will be served. Bring a snack or dessert to share.

Mesa Public Library is sponsoring National Gaming Day, an all day event starting at noon. Kids and teens are invited to join them for life-size Candyland, a Super Smash Brothers Brawl tournament and board games from Hi Ho! Cherry-O, to Apples to Apples. Adults are invited to bring their “Magic: The Gathering” cards, Dungeons and Dragons games and any other board game to play for 12-straight hours. Birding trip to Las Vegas National Wildlife Refuge. Depart at 6:30 a.m. from Pajarito Environmental Education Center, 3540 Orange St., at 6:30  a.m., arrive at LVNWR at 9 a.m. Designed for intermediate birders and led by Dave Yeamans. The White Rock Family Friendly Film Series presents, “Winnie the Pooh,” at 7 p.m. in the White Rock Town Hall.

The Authors Speak Series presents “David Stuart: People of the Pajarito Plateau,” at 7 p.m. in the upstairs rotunda. The event is being held one week earlier due to the Thanksgiving holiday.

The Los Alamos County Republican Party will meet at 7:30 p.m. at the Hill Top House, third floor conference room.

Nov. 19

Los Alamos Garden Club  gently used Christmas ornament sale will be from 8:30-11:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church, 715 Diamond Dr.

Family Night Walk with Jaye Gilmore at 4:30 p.m. at Pajarito Environmental Education Center, 3540 Orange St., for 1 ½ hours learning about nighttime animals. Register in advance, $5/person, $15/family, at PajaritoEEC.org or 662-0460.

Nov. 20

The CROP Hunger Walk and Turkey Trot will be at 2 p.m. at the Middle School cafeteria. Come early to sign up for this 2.57-mile walk or run. Participation is free, but donations of canned food or money are welcome. Random drawings of turkeys and pumpkin pies after the race. The CROP Walk money raised helps to eliminate poverty and hunger nationally and globally through grassroots efforts. Twenty-five percent of the proceeds raised go toward our local food bank, LA Cares.

Nov. 21

The Los Alamos Garden Club will meet at Crossroads Bible Church. Socializing starts at 9:30 a.m., with the meeting at 10 a.m. Christmas ornament-making project with Sally Warner at 10:30 am. Visitors welcome. For more information contact Alahna, 672-9539.

Recurring meetings

The Atomic City Corvette Club meets at 6 p.m. on the first Thursday of each month at Time Out Pizza in White Rock. You do not need to own a Corvette to attend. For more information, contact Mike Luna at 672-4087.

The Lions Club meets at 84 Barcelona in White Rock on the first and third Thursdays. They enjoy a meal and combine fun and social gathering with a business meeting. Those interested are invited to attend one of the meetings as a guest. For more information, call 672-3300 or 672-9563.
