A chapter of The Compassionate Friends will meet on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on the northeast side of the new YMCA Annex, Central Park Square, suite 140. Co-led by Eric Ferm and Valerie Wood. The organization offers non-denominational grief support after the death of a child. Bereaved parents and grandparents are welcome regardless of age. Downtown Dogs. A weekly walking group for dogs and humans. The walk starts from Pet Pangaea at 6 p.m. for a stroll around downtown Los Alamos. Bring a leash, no longer than six feet.

Golf Tournament: Tee it Up For the Future. 1 p.m. shotgun start at Los Alamos Golf Course. Funds raised will go to a scholarship fund that will be distributed among local students. Los Alamos Health Fair. Starting at 8 a.m. at the Los Alamos High School Gym.

Friends of the Shelter will be sponsoring a Mobile Pet Adoption. 8 a.m.-noon near the Los Alamos High School Gym as part of the Annual Health Fair. Meet some shelter dogs and talk with volunteers about any of the cats or dogs currently at the shelter.

Thunderbird Rock Hike. 9 a.m. Discover Thunderbird Rock, which has the second largest collection of rock art in the White Rock Canyon. Paul Arendt will lead this hike, to discover this wondrous rock art collection. Meet at the Red Dot trailhead. Advance registration is required, and space is limited. Free. The Pajarito Astronomers will be hosting a county-sponsored Dark Night starting at 7 p.m. (sunset) at Spirio Soccer Field, Overlook Park. Weather permitting, the public is invited to look through telescopes and star gaze. There will be a tour of the summer and fall constellations, and there will be telescope views of double stars, star clusters, nebulae, and galaxies. Viewing will end before midnight.
