 Join Assets in Action for a brief, free presentation on adding assets to your family, from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. in the third floor Casava Meeting Room at the Los Alamos Research Park, 4200 W. Jemez Road. Tips and tools for toddlers through teens will be offered. The free class is open to parents, caregivers or those working with young people in any form. Last day of Henry Finney’s Exhibit in the Art Gallery at Mesa Public Library. Images from his recently published book of poetry, “The Fire Gate Poems,” are works in many media painting, drawing, photography, prints-related to the poems.

Los Alamos Friday Night Out. Mesa Public Library is open with all regular library services until 9 p.m. and presents two events: Open Mike Poetry starts at 7 p.m. in the upstairs rotunda. Everyone is welcome to come read their work; hosted by local poet David Mutschlecner.
And, it’s the start of the Cult Classic Horror Movie Series after hours. The library will be open after 9 p.m. for the movie only, which begins at 9:30 p.m. in the upstairs meeting rooms. Slide in for “Slither” (R).

 Come meet Los Alamos Shelter Animals at 10 a.m. at Pet Pangaea in Central Park Square. This will be a low-key event — an easy way to see these animals that need new homes — dogs, cats, kittens. Bring your own pets. Take a dog for a walk. Sponsored by Pet Pangaea and Friends of the Shelter.

Celebrate the national parks and get into the 4th of July spirit with the opening reception for a new exhibit of photos by Leslie Bucklin titled, “Enchanted Parks: A Photographic Tale of Life in Our National Parks.” Refreshments and gallery walk-through with the artist. Show runs through Aug. 6.

July 5
Mesa Public Library Free Film Series presents the next in the Foreign Film Series, “Volver” (R) from Spain. Directed by Pedro Almodovar starring Penelope Cruz, at 6:30 p.m. in the upstairs meeting rooms of Mesa Public Library.

The White Rock Family Friendly Film Series presents “Miss Minoes” (PG), at 7 p.m. in the White Rock Town Hall.

First Friday Forts at PEEC from 3:30-5 p.m. Come to PEEC and get building! On the first Friday of every month, join other kids who like building forts (and their parents) to build, play and hang out in the new place you created! Parents must stay and supervise their children.
