The Los Alamos Volunteer Examiner Group will give exams for amateur radio licenses at 6:30 p.m. in the Club Meeting Room at 4017 Arkansas (the Old Fire Barn). Those testing for a new license will need a picture ID or two other forms of ID with name and address on them (utility bill, credit card bill or other) and a test fee of $15, either in cash or a check made out to “ARRL VEC.” Those in attendance will also need to fill in their Social Security number on the form 605 License Application. Those seeking a license upgrade will need the picture ID or two other forms of ID plus the original license and a copy of the license or a valid CSCE (Certificate of Successful Completion of Exam) and a copy of the CSCE, plus the exam fee of $15. The League of Women Voters will again have Tom Ribe as their speaker for Lunch with Leader at 11:40 a.m. at Mesa Library. He will give an overview of Los Alamos’s power sources and urge an update of the electricity supply over the next decade to address climate change. The Los Alamos Genealogical Association will meet at 7 p.m., at the Mesa Public Library. George Jennings will give a report on the recent Roots Tech 2013 Conference and the benefits of attending genealogical conferences. The public is invited.
Old La Bajada Road Hike. Janie O’Rourke will lead a hike following a historic roadway up and down the escarpment at La Bajada. The Pajarito Astronomers will be holding a County-Sponsored Dark Night at Spirio Soccer Field, Overlook Park, starting at 7:45 p.m. Weather permitting, the public is invited to come out, wander among the telescopes, and star gaze. Caving Outing. PEEC is offering an exciting outing to Alabaster Cave near San Isidro. Natural History of Bats: Masters of the Night Sky. Wildlife biologist Debbie Buecher will give an overview of the amazing natural history of bats, play bat calls, and discuss her research. Juvenile Justice Advisory Board meeting will be held at 6 p.m. in Building #1, Camino Entrada Road, Pajarito Cliffs Site. Jennifer Weiss, executive director of the Heroin Awareness Committee will present “Opiate Addiction — No Exceptions” — a presentation and discussion regarding the current reality of drug addiction in New Mexico and the prevalence of prescription drug abuse among our youth. The public is welcome.

The Republican Party of Los Alamos will elect the 2013-2015 County Central Committee and its officers at the Jeannette O. Wallace Hall, room 505, at UNM-LA, 400 University Drive. The County Contingent to the Republican Party of New Mexico Central Committee will also be elected. Republicans registered in the county are encouraged to attend. Registration opens at 6:30 p.m. and closes at 7 p.m. A meeting of the 2011-2012 Central Committee begins at 7 p.m. followed by Ward Caucuses and the County Convention.
