“The Gardener’s Calendar” class with Martha Davis, will be from 7-9 p.m. at PEEC, 3540 Orange St. The class is an introduction to year round gardening activities. Pre-registration is required and costs $10 or $9 for members.

The first of three Los Alamos Public Schools Long-Range Financial Planning community meetings will be from 6:30-8 p.m. at Barranca Mesa Elementary.

A joint meeting of the Los Alamos Sustainable Energy and the Sierra Club, featuring Anna Hansen of Green Fire Times, will be at 7 p.m. in the Mesa Public Library. Green Fire Times spotlights initiatives that create positive impacts on climate change, energy independence and green job development.
The February meeting of the Master Gardeners will be at
7 p.m. at the White Rock Town Hall.

Mesa Public Library presents “Round Midnight,” as part of the Free Film Series, at 6:30 p.m. in the upstairs meeting rooms of MPL.
A Chinese New Year celebration will be at the First Baptist Church, 2200 Diamond Dr. A Chinese New Year carnival will be from 3-6 p.m., followed by a Chinese New Year party from 6-9 p.m. Talent shows, games, a Chinese-style dinner, a carnival with dim-sum, crafts, a theatrical show and Chinese calligraphy will be offered. Cost is $7 for adults and $3.50 for children. Children younger than four are admitted free.

Los Alamos Little Theatre will hold auditions for “A Class Act,” the story of Edward Kleban, the Tony Award winning lyricist of “A Chorus Line.” A non-required workshop will be from noon-2 p.m. Feb. 5.
Auditions will be from 7-10 p.m. Feb. 11 and from noon-

The Los Alamos Gardener Club will host a Valentine tea party in the sunroom at Aspen Ridge. Residents of the lodge are invited. At 10:30 a.m., Dotty Reilly, Tea World hostess, will give a presentation on tea. A regular business meeting at 9:45 a.m. will precede the social. Los Alamos Public Schools Superintendent Gene Schmidt and former teacher Kelly Myers will present the findings of almost a year-long effort on a long range planning report during the monthly League of Women Voters Lunch with a Leader meeting. Feb. 11
Sombrillo Rehab and Nursing Center is having its first Valentine’s Day Prom from 6-7:30 p.m. Donations of used-good condition prom-like dresses and men’s suit jackets are being sought. All donations will be used by the residents for this special night. Drop off donations to Sombrillo, attention Dixie Ortiz, manager of our activities department.
Feb. 12
 The Valentine Coffeehouse, sponsored by the Los Alamos Arts Council, will be at 7:30 p.m. at Fuller Lodge and includes dessert and a beverage. Music begins at 8:15 p.m. Tickets are available at CB Fox.
