Bandelier seeks public input on fire management plan

Bandelier National Monument has announced that the park is initiating a planning effort to prepare a new fire management plan and environmental assessment (EA).  The resulting decisions will guide the full range of wildland fire program activities that will support land and resource management objectives.

According to Park Superintendent Jason Lott, “We invite everyone who is interested in the future of the Bandelier Fire Program to participate in this planning process..”

 The public is invited to attend an open house to learn more about the project, have discussions with park staff, and provide comments.  There will be two opportunities to attend a public meeting: 12:30-2:30 p.m. at Fuller Lodge and 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Los Alamos Fire Station No. 3 in White Rock.

The purpose of the proposed fire management plan for Bandelier National Monument is to comply with new national and NPS policies and to incorporate new scientific information into fire management planning within parks.  

 In preparing a new fire management plan for Bandelier National Monument, the National Park Service seeks to provide management direction that reflects these changes. 

In addition, the new fire management plan intends to provide management direction that improves the ability to achieve new goals developed during this process.
