A pair of Los Alamos Hilltopper basketball players were named to the 4A/5A North All-Star team for the 2011-12 season.
Hilltopper Monika Teter was selected to join the girls big-school All-Star Game, while Nick Baker was picked for the North All-Star boys team.
The team announcements were made Monday by the New Mexico High School Coaches Association, which organizes the All-Star events.
The boys 4A/5A All-Star game is scheduled for Aug. 2 at La Cueva High School in Albuquerque, an unusually late scheduling — most years, All-Star series events are wrapped up in July — while the girls 4A/5A game is set for June 8 at Rio Rancho.
None of the four coaches involved in the 4A/5A games have been announced.
To be eligible to participate in All-Star contests, players must be graduating seniors.
Teter, a 5-foot-10 center for Los Alamos, helped the Hilltoppers to a playoff berth this season. Teter is the second Hilltopper named to the All-Star team in the last three years — Taylor Ealey picked up the All-Star honor following the 2009-10 season.
Baker, one of the top defensive players in 4A last year, also led the Hilltoppers to a playoff berth following their third-place finish in District 2-4A.
The last Hilltopper to be named to the boys basketball All-Star team was Alex Kirk, also in the 2009-10 season.
Both Baker and Teter were named to the All-District 2-4A first team following the season.
The big-school teams from both the North and the South are formidable this season. On the girls side, the North All-Stars included Player of the Year Gina Okoye of Eldorado, Amanda Chee of Piedra Vista and Darla Woody of Kirtland Central. The South is represented by Marika Trujillo of Roswell and Brittany Gutierrez of Gallup, among others.
On the boys side, Isaiah Rogers of Sandia and Kyle Quintana of Cleveland will represent the North . Chase Salazar of Goddard and Mando Marshall of Las Cruces are among the top players in the South.
