Author, poet to teach creative writing at UNM-LA

Joan Logghe, Santa Fe’s Poet Laureate 2010-2012, will be teaching a Creative Writing class at UNM-LA. The class will meet 9–11:45 a.m., Fridays from Sept. 12–Dec. 5.
Logghe encourages writers of all levels to take her class. “There will be a healthy and fun mix of poetry, memoir, creative non-fiction, and sudden fiction. This class is an introduction to creative writing and will be great and gentle for beginners; published writers may also refresh their writing style. You may be making a writer’s timeline of your life for a memoir, writing a Malayan pantoum in poetry, or a sudden fiction based on a real childhood memory,” she said.
The Singing Bowl (University of New Mexico Press) and Love & Death: Greatest Hits (Tres Chicas Books) are Logghe’s two recent books, the later with Miriam Sagan and Renée Gregorio and winner of a New Mexico Book Award.
Logghe has won a National Endowment for the Arts, years of support from the Witter Bynner Foundation for Poetry, has three children and three grandkids, and for twelve years has been poet-in-residence at Santa Fe Girls’ School.
There are still seats available and those wishing to enroll in Logghe’s class (ENGL 224) should contact UNM-LA Student Services at 662-0332.
