Art exhibits
National Museum of Nuclear Science & History has opened a permanent exhibit by American sculptor Jim Sanborn called “Critical Assembly, the Secrets of Los Alamos 1944: An Installation by American Sculptor Jim Sanborn,” which recreates the Manhattan Project experiments that determined when plutonium goes “critical in an atomic bomb.” The museum is open seven days a week from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and is located at 601 Eubank Blvd. SE, in Albuquerque. “From Our Mountain to Yours: Sharing Visions of the Land of Enchantment,” exhibit at the Fuller Lodge Art Center will be open until Jan. 5. Artists Sandi Ludescher and Betty Lehnus will collaborate on the exhibit. There will be an Artist’s Reception from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, during the Holiday Open House. Refreshments will be offered. Los Alamos Scottish Country Dancers meet every Monday from 7:30-10 p.m. at Fuller Lodge. New dancers are welcome at any class. No partner or special dress is needed to participate. Cost is $3 per night or $35 for five months of dancing. Classes meet from September through June. Los Alamos Folk Dance Club from 7:15-9:30 p.m. every Tuesday (except fifth Tuesdays) at the Los Alamos Little Theatre, 1670 Nectar St., Los Alamos, Cost is $3 a night. Family friendly and fun exercise. Teaching is 7:15-8 p.m. and dance requests are 8-9:30 p.m. Call Dennis at 661-4240 for information.
Wednesday afternoon classes from 1-3 p.m. at the Family Strengths Network. Instructor Burgandy Brock will teach a different activity every Wednesday, including gardening, painting and more. Everyone is welcome. Free.

Holiday Open House is 10 a.m.-6 p.m. at Fuller Lodge Art Center. Open Sundays from noon-3 p.m. Dec. 9, 16 and 23.

Christmas at the Palace from 5-8 p.m. Sunday at the Palace of the Governors New Mexico History Museum, 105 W. Palace Ave., 505-476-5200. An evening of hot cider, cookies, live music, a chance to operate an antique printing press, old fashioned activities, a visit from Mr. and Mrs. Claus, all in the legendary magic of the Palace of the Governors. Free Family Event. (Donations of non-perishable food welcomed.)   Enter through the Palace at 105 W. Palace Ave. The History Museum and Palace will close at 3 p.m. to prepare and remains closed for the evening.  

Light Among the Runs from 5-9 p.m. Saturday at the Jemez Historic Site, 18160 NM 4, Jemez Springs. 575-829-3530. The ruins of Gisewa Pueblo and San José de los Jemez Mission Church will be decorated with hundreds of traditional farolitos, with traditional Native American flute music and Jemez Pueblo dancers performing between two bonfires. Holiday Ornament
Workshops from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Dec. 12, 14, 18, 19 at the Museum of Indian Arts and Culture, 710 Camino Lejo on Museum Hill, Santa Fe. 505-476-1269. Join the group for the ornament workshop. Stop by anytime between 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Dec. 12 and 14 is Micaseous and Polymer Clay, Dec. 18 is painted gourds. Dec. 19 is corn husk dolls. This is a free activity but participants are asked to make an ornament for the museum also. The tree lighting is Dec. 21 and they need ornaments to adorn the tree.
Artist Talk and Performance by Darren Vigil Gray at 1:30 p.m. Saturday. Performance is at 3 p.m. Saturday. Both are at the Museum of Contemporary Native Arts, 108 Cathedral Place, Santa Fe. Gray is an exhibition artist, will discuss his art practice and perform with his band, Righteous Renegades, an experimental jam band, as they bring in the holidays with a bang.

The Taos Chamber Music Group’s 26th season continues with a holiday-time program that features Russian virtuoso pianist Gleb Ivanov. The performance of “Beyond Borders” will be at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 14, 15 and 16, 5:30 p.m. at the Harwood Museum of Art, 238 Ledoux St., in Taos.
