Congressman Ben Ray Luján of New Mexico’s Third District announced today that entries in this year’s Congressional Art Competition will be displayed in an exhibit open to the public at the City of Santa Fe Arts Commission Community Gallery May 2 and May 3. Luján will announce the winners of the competition during a reception on Saturday.
“Every year, I am impressed with the quality and creativity of the high school students who participate in this competition, and I am sure this year will be no different,” Luján said. “I am excited that we will have the opportunity to show off their fine work in the City of Santa Fe Arts Commission Community Gallery for all to see.”
The annual competition allows members of Congress to display the talent and creativity of their high school constituents. The first-place entry from each Congressional district will be displayed as part of an exhibit in the United States Capitol for one year.
The winner will travel to Washington, D.C. for a reception honoring the national winners. Artwork that places second through seventh will be displayed in Luján’s district offices across northern New Mexico.
Students interested in entering the competition can still do so. Entries must be submitted to the Santa Fe district office by 5 p.m. Friday. More information regarding the contest guidelines is available on Luján’s website, www.lujan.house.gov.
All entries submitted to Luján’s office by high school students in the Third District will be on display on May 2 from 5 to 7 p.m. and again during a reception at the Gallery on May 3 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at which time the winners will be announced.
