Aggies fall in critical WAC contest vs. Idaho

-A A +A

The New Mexico State Aggie men’s basketball team lost a lead at the half for the first time this season Thursday night.

NMSU was up 36-32 over the Idaho Vandals in Moscow, but the Vandals outscored NMSU by 10 points in the second half to win a big Western Athletic Conference contest, 73-67.
Idaho (9-14 overall, 3-6 in the WAC) got 24 points from Stephen Madison, who led all scorers. Madison went 8 of 18 from the floor and also finished with 8 rebounds.
The loss was a disappointing one for the Aggies (17-8, 6-3 in the WAC), who just last week pulled to within a game of Utah Valley for the conference lead. Now the Aggies are two full games back of Utah Valley with seven conference games left to play.
Daniel Mullings, who won two consecutive Player of the Week honors coming into this week, had 20 points and DK Eldridge and Kevin Aronis finished with 12. Mullings’ points tied him with former Aggie standout Charles Gosa for 13th on the all-time scoring list at the school.
NMSU will be at Seattle U Saturday. NMSU topped Seattle 96-87 Jan. 9 in Las Cruces.
