Nominations needed

  Nominations are needed for Assets in Action’s Community Awards event, which will be held Jan. 8 at Fuller Lodge. To nominate a youth, community member or business, call 661-4846 for an application or visit www.AssetsinAction.info. Nominations are due Dec. 15.  


Take some lessons

  Beginning Quickstep lessons will be offered at 7 p.m. Thursdays this month at the Unitarian Church. No partner is required. Cost is $5 per lesson or $12 for all three. There will be no lesson on Dec. 24 or Dec. 31. Contact robpelak@los-alamos.net for more information.


Summer events being planned

  A community collaborative is planning events for the summer around the theme of water. Members of the community are seeking a name for the event. To make a suggestion, e-mail them to AssetsInAction@att.net. Prizes will be given for the individual who created the winning name. Anyone may enter.


Food distrubution Dec. 11

  LA Cares will have its monthly food distribution from 11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Dec. 11 at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Only Los Alamos and White Rock residents are eligible, but must call 661-8015 no later than Sunday to sign up.


Have lunch with a tiger

Assets In Action and the Cooperative Extension Office are sponsoring Lunch with a Tiger. Parents of Aspen Elementary students are invited to have lunch at school on Dec. 7 to learn about nutrition and exercise while making a free dinner to take home. The project with funds from the Juvenile Justice Advisory Board and Con Alma are helping community members make healthier choices when it comes to food and fitness. Drawing kicks off WinterFest

  To help start WinterFest, Mountain Engraving will hold a drawing on Friday to give away four engraved gift items and Christmas ornaments. Sign up for the drawing from 10 a.m.-

3 p.m. The drawing will take place at 3:30 p.m. People must register in person but they do not need to be present for the drawing to win.  Mountain Engraving is located at 190 Central Park Square, Suite 111 in the Small Business Center behind the Post Office. Other gift items will be available for purchase with select items reduced 20-

50 percent.
