LA track teams return numerous placers

Los Alamos’ boys and girls track teams have brought home plenty of state team trophies over the years.
Last year, the boys team finished third in the state while the girls were only one spot away from a team trophy in fourth place.
The vast majority of the girls who scored team points last year are back to help Los Alamos make another run.
Unlike the Hilltopper girls, most of the boys who scored at last year’s state meet graduated.
At this point in the season, however, Los Alamos’ boys and girls track teams are just trying to get in shape and figure out which events are the best fit for its athletes.
“Right now we’re trying to get in shape without hurting anyone,” boys head coach Larry Baca said.
“We’ll focus on individual events, how to compete and how to compete as a team and the results will come,” girls head coach Paul Anderson said.
Chelsea Chalacombe will be one of the team’s leaders. Last year she placed in the maximum five events at state. She placed in the 100-meter hurdles, the high jump, the triple jump, the shot put and the was on the 4x100 relay that finished 6th.
